How do you come up with new ideas to create paintings?

yep.. like, dreams? drugs? i dont like drugs
How do you come up with new ideas to create paintings?
For me, it%26#039;s not quite dream subject matter, but images that flash in my head when I close my eyes. I%26#039;ll try to remember what the image was, and try to work with it from there.
How do you come up with new ideas to create paintings?
go get inspired. nature, current events, religion, music...any where you normally go when you feel %26quot;dry%26quot;, or any where you normally don%26#039;t go.

please don%26#039;t do drug.
Reply:well usually painters and drawers are the ppl who can see much details.

they can see alot of details in like for example nature then they take what they want in that nature and place it with another thing they had in mind.

so i think it isnt just one thing they see and GET the idea from
Reply:I usually simply pay attention to the environment around me. From the oddly shaped building or aging tree to people on the street or odd circumstances that occur during the course of the day.

You can find inspiration in the laughter of a child, the display of affection between two senior citizen, a partially covered manhole cover, the way natural light hits certain structures as the sun set, etc.

Look around you and take in life as it is unfolding about you.
Reply:I keep my eyes and mind open, i read which gives me great images. sometimes i doodle my way into an idea. Alot of the time i will put on great toons sit down and just see what happens. I paint humans most of the time as the main subject matter.
Reply:Jean Michel Basquiat was inspired by drugs and his street life.
Reply:I just LOOK at everything -- people, objects, nature, the way the shadows hit or outline or are cast by a particular structure, a reflection...

Then I try to look %26quot;into%26quot; the thing. So, for example, if I%26#039;m painting a portrait I try to capture the spirit or essence of the person. (If I wanted to do a super realistic depiction, I could take a photo!)

I also go to exhibitions and look at a LOT of art -- for inspiration and information (NOT imitation, although it%26#039;s hard not to be influenced!).

Sometimes music inspires me. (I have a friend who has a whole series of richly colorful acrylic abstracts inspired by Bob Dylan songs.)

Use your imagination. Paint your dreams. (There%26#039;s a whole group of fantasy artists who do just that.)

Good luck!
Reply:It%26#039;s not what you see as much as what you%26#039;re interested in. What do you wonder about, think about, try to answer questions about? Do you often find yourself people watching at the mall...maybe you are interested in interpersonal relationships...maybe you have a lot of questions about church or religion...maybe that can be a starting point....Images are worth nothing, no matter how beautiful, if they are not tied to a strong idea...strong ideas rarely come from out of the blue, they come from a strong opinion/passion/or train of thought that can be communicated through a visual representation.
