i have a 4 foot high wooden bear and want to make a mould from it so i can make reproduce 100reds of models
who would i call to get it done or how could i do it myself
Need to make mold for bear?
Did you do the bear sculpture? If it%26#039;s yours you can reproduce it in different ways. The 2 methods I prefer: Contact a %26quot;bronze foundry%26quot; they make molds for all kinds of different castings. It can be very expensive though, especially if your piece is 4 feet high. If you%26#039;re an artist %26amp; are up to the challenge, you can pour a rubber mold, the best I%26#039;ve used is %26quot;Por-A-Mold Thixotropic%26quot; (Check out the dickblick link below.) but if you go this route, be prepared for a huge mess, cuz this stuff gets EVERYWHERE, it is a difficult process, but if it%26#039;s done correctly it will give you a fantastic replica of the bear. You will need to seal the bear first, %26amp; use a release agent so the mold doesn%26#039;t stick to the bear. Sometimes you can loose your original sculpture, wood especially, so make sure this is really what you want to do. It might be worth the investment asking a foundry for their help. Sometimes foundries will allow you to work on your piece in their facilities %26amp; that helps cut the cost some. But again, this is only if it is YOUR sculpture, because you can%26#039;t reproduce anything that you are not the artist of. Hope this helps.
Alginate molds will deteriorate after one or 2 casts, but silicone rubber molds (like the Por-a-Mold Thix%26#039;) will last a long time %26amp; can reproduce hundreds of casts.
Need to make mold for bear?
a) what is the material you want it reproduced in? Every mold is only good for a certain number of replicas, it deteriorates with use. A sturdy mold probably will cost you a few hundred dollars to make.
b) why would you want 100s of replicas? Unless it%26#039;s old enough you can%26#039;t sell it, it probably would be copyright infringement.

International coins as art?
I have some coins my father gave to me. They aren%26#039;t really valuable but I like them. I want to frame them or showcase them somehow, but I am not artistic at all. I thought I would like to incorporate some color too. Any ideas?
International coins as art?
on sheet of paper trace the outline shape of country from which the coin is ! and middle of it stick the coin ! and colour the country in its flag !!
i hope this helped !
good luck!

Amateur artist; Questions?
Can an amateur artist improve his/her drawing skills by taking lessons? I ask because I don%26#039;t know and have never took any lessons. One only thing I am having trouble is, drawing my own stuff - different ideas- creativeness. I need to look at someone else drawing to draw. I cannot draw stuff from my own mind.
Here is an example of my drawing skills. *Again, Image below are not my ideas*

Not much, I%26#039;ve been busy with school.

Try Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain... it sure worked for me.

i think your doing fine, my drawing level was like yours when i was your grade, but i took art class in highschool, and thats about it, but i actually just got in a competitive art college. but i stild recommend going to art lessons outside school.
Reply:yeah.. lessons definitely help. They%26#039;ll help you with the actual drawing... but if you really want to be an artist, you need to find out how to grab hold of whats in your mind.. and draw it.
dont worry though.. lessons help make it easier for you to just draw what you%26#039;re imagining
Reply:i guess what you want to do is focus on drawing things from life as acuratly as you can first, then you%26#039;ll start getting ideas. I also like to draw things out of some of my dreams lol.Its really good to have in a portfolio too
Reply:yeah lessons are great you really learn a lot. if you have the money, definitely go, cus i went and man if there was a comparison for how i was b4 and after, it looks like 2 different people.
yeah i had that insecurity with creativity and stuff, but its just the lack of life experience. just learn a lot from school and observe the world and you will learn how to be creative.
for practice, (example) if you are into games ( i am) try creating a list of characters from scratch and what kind of game, etc. Who is the main hero? the villain? who is the big muscle guy? who is the female character?, etc. make a character and design it, and say has this been done? what new creative spin can i do to improve it and not copy, but get inspired from?
Reply:In my opinion it takes originality to be an artist in the romantic sense. As far as the mechanics, you have what it takes to do the grunt work in advertising and animation. All those jobs are currently outsourced. You have to live your art before you can create. Art is about observation. Your personal observatiopn is your originality. Most artists wont make enough money with art.
Reply:Yes.Almost every artist whether successful or not will start out copying somebody elses work.Back in the middle ages they apprenticed young talented artists under a master craftsmen.Usually the apprentice will have a style like their masters%26#039; but along the way develop their own style.I can see that you%26#039;re influenced by the Manga art style. When I was alot younger it was Marvel comics as I was hoping to become a comic book artist when I grew up.
Reply:you might improve with lessons but youre not bad at that style of drawing already. practice makes perfect. you could take a life drawing class and explore shading and drawing anatomy, but it will only help if you draw above and beyond your assignments.
Reply:Yes, I believe in always continuing your education in art. You have a natural ability in drawing and a steady hand, but if you take drawing courses, you%26#039;ll be able to improve your sense of value and form.

What kind of table is this?
The top of the table has a carved and painted picture that is sunk into the table and has a glass cover its kinda like a shadow box exept the pic is like 3-d like so you cant put things in it also it is antique is it worth anything
What kind of table is this?
a) it%26#039;s a table with a relief under glass. could be a side table, cocktail table whatever.
Depending on the materials used, the craftsmanship, the style, the age, who made it, it could be worth a decent amount of money or nothing at all.
Without and image it%26#039;s impossible to tell.
but this is sculpture anyway, not a free and valid appraisal service, so regard all info including this here as tentative... if you really want to know pay an appraiser.

How do you rotate a movie from your camera that you took sideways?
You need an editing programme like Avidpro. And a very very grunty computer.
Or turn the TV over.

Whats wrong with my Wacom Pen Tablet? (Please help, details inside)?
For some reason it%26#039;ll act like the pen is still touching the tablet and drag ink all over my screen in photoshop even if the pen is like 2 inches off the tablet. It keeps doing this on and off until I switch USB ports, or take it out/reinsert it. I%26#039;ve tried all USB ports and another computer and it still does this.
When not in Photoshop it doesn%26#039;t drag the pen and get ink everywhere, but it will drag the box selection tool (like when you are selecting a group of icons on your desktop) similar to when you drag a cursor across the screen with SHIFT held down.
Can someone please tell me what I can do to fix this? I updated my driver and everything. I know its not just my computer either as I tried it on my laptop too (although my laptop is admittedly a piece of ****...) but it%26#039;s something that%26#039;s just started recently on both PCs with the same tablet.

Have you checked your driver settings and/or calibrated your tablet? Perhaps your sensitivity settings are off.

What is a good introduction for a paper on combining two religious groups together, Christianity and Judism?
Looking for a great intro to this question. this is a humanities assignment, and has to do with a peice of art placed in a lobby entrance that all people will see and view.
What is a good introduction for a paper on combining two religious groups together, Christianity and Judism?
Variable Contrast paper is definitely your best choice in this situation.

Reply:When you encounter a work of art, what immediately comes to mind? Do you immediately think of religion, or one%26#039;s faith? Does a work of art evoke a feeling of spirituality?
Reply:Large format is for wusses, if you are going to tackle Judism and Christianity at the same time you need to go ULF( ultra large format) 17x20 negs baby!

Canon EOS 40D, 5D or 1DS?
Im looking to upgrade my rebel xti and im having a hard time choosing between a canon EOS 40D, 5D and 1DS. I do a lot of portraiture work and some landscape. Im an amature photographer working my way up to making photography my Profession. The 40D and 5D are more my price range but Im going to be keeping this camera for a long time and I want to make sure I make a good investment. What camera do you recommend for my type of work? Also I have an EF 50mm f/1.4 lens for my Rebel. Im pretty sure that lens is compatible with the 40D but is it for the 5D and 1DS?
extra info:
* I have a Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash but I much rather use natural light, so I need a camera that works well in all lighting situations.
* Since I will also be using this camera on children (toddlers and babies) I need a camera that is fast! : )
Thank You to all who respond!
Canon EOS 40D, 5D or 1DS?
The Canon 5D is the best FF value on the market.
Canon EOS 40D, 5D or 1DS?
5d is the winner. - it will be brilliant for all your needs amd 50mm will really make things pop. flash all good. FF is the future.
the 1ds is more fps, do you need more than 2 a second?
s
Reply:definately the 5D. Canon haven%26#039;t packed too many pixels on the full frame which gives it better picture quality than it%26#039;s top of the line brother. It is sharply priced and would make an OK portrait camera. As for landscape, well that isn%26#039;t really in the realm for a 35mm camera and so the money you save by not buying the 1Ds will allow you to buy a medium format camera, or better still a 4x5 or 8x10 large format camera.
My advise however would be to go for medium format which is better for portrait work and landscape. 35mm cameras are good for PJ or event photography.
Reply:I would go for the 5D but the EOS 40D is hugely popular with beginners.

Reply:My personal choice would be the full frame 5D but you need to keep in mind that technology changes rather quickly and within a few years you will need to buy a new body. Unlike before digital when you could keep your camera for years you can%26#039;t do that in the digital age. Within a few years technology will have improved to the point where your camera will no longer be useable for professional work. You might be better off buying the 40D and investing your extra money in top quality lenses. If you are seriously considering going pro you will need the best lenses you can get. For Canon these will be the L series. The lens you use is much more important than the camera body when it comes to image quality. Your lenses will also last a lifetime your camera wont.
The other answerers all make very good points and suggestions but I just wanted to point out that you might be better off building up your lens collection and then invest some serious money in your camera later.

Would people be willing to buy pictures this size?
like VERY good hand drawn pictures on like 8 1/2 x 12 Inch sketch paper and stuff? Like people in prisons draw? Ive seen people pay good money for them but dont know if a lot of people would.
Would people be willing to buy pictures this size?
I think that there%26#039;s a market for everything, but you need to know how to market yourself.
My advice is to start an Etsy shop and sell your drawings there. Buy QUALITY paper (yes, I know it%26#039;s expensive, but if you want to be taken seriously, you%26#039;ll need to do this), and mount and/or frame your drawings. Make it something that someone would want to buy.
Good luck! I hope it works out for ya.

make it look good to be applied on applications like glass, cup, etc that is usable...:)

Louvre museum question.?
I%26#039;ve been to france last summer and i%26#039;ve seen a painting not far enough from the mona lisa, it was in the hallway, there was a painting that made me think about the story behind, the painting was a portrait of a young man in his 20%26#039;s and he had sdoulder length hair and the painting next to it had a portrait of his brother i think then they had a portrait of the two together, who are these 2 men?
Louvre museum question.?
It could have been a painting of Jesus and John the Baptist, also by Leonardo da Vinci (and, in my opinion, more interesting than the Mona Lisa!).
Have you tried taking a %26quot;virtual tour%26quot; through the Louvre? I don%26#039;t know if this is possible or if they only %26quot;highlight%26quot; the most familiar works...but it%26#039;s worth a try!

How hard would it be to find a job in Graphic Design if you don't have a degree?
but you have alot of experience in art and can work the programs they use
How hard would it be to find a job in Graphic Design if you don%26#039;t have a degree?
Darn near impossible. You%26#039;d need to be able to have a portfolio prepared for any interview you go to...that is, IF you get an interview.
Most companies look at past work history and education when it comes to something as specialized as Graphic Design. If you don%26#039;t have either, you%26#039;ll have to keep going back in to let them know you%26#039;re serious about the position and let them know that you%26#039;ve assembled samples of your work.
Make sure your samples are of good quality and professionally printed (yes, this means shelling out some money to get it done right). Having a good portfolio is imperative. If you have a fantastic portfolio with no experience and you%26#039;re up against someone with lots of education but no portfolio, they%26#039;re going to choose you.
Graphic Design is all about seeing. If they don%26#039;t have anything to look at, then forget it.
Sorry to be so blunt.

Becoming a film director?
I am currently taking an honour%26#039;s degree in Canada for Professional Writing, and plan to double major in Film Studies. This doesn%26#039;t allow me to create films however, just study films (theory etc.) and do a bit of screen writing - it%26#039;s not a degree in Film Production. I was thinking of going to college afterwards to do the production part, since it will take only a year or two, instead of doing a full degree after which will take four. Or would it be beneficial to switch my degree completely to something in Film Production? ** If there is anyone with film industry experience / film school experience who could provide insight to this question, it would be appreciated. **
Becoming a film director?
One of my best friends growing up was almost in your situation. From what I saw of his experience you should do whatever makes you eat, sleep and breath becoming your dream.
Once you are done with school, get yourself into the business. My friend moved to LA (his dad lived there which helped emmensly) and that was basically the big turning point for him. I have lost touch with him in the last 10 years but I dont think that he%26#039;s a director yet. Its a hard business to be succesful in.
Becoming a film director?
If I wanted to be a director I would goto film school.
If you have the passion do it, if your not eating and breathing making movies then stick where you are.

ebay, amazon?
Reply:I would try a comic book store or something of the like. You would probably have more luck with people that actually know about what they are paying for. If not, I recommend ebay. Just find out what it is worth before selling.

Amateur photography- Canon SD1000 or Canon A570 IS?
I%26#039;m into amatuer photography, and I%26#039;m
looking for a cheap, small camera, that
takes great pictures like this:
http://i30.tinypic.com/16a9vg2.png
I%26#039;m stuck between the Canon Powershot SD1000 or Canon A570 IS.
BUT!
Here%26#039;s my delima, I want to take self portraits,
indoors or outdoors.
I heard the A570 IS has a lot of noise?
QUESTION:
Which is better for amateur photography AND
self portraits without much noise.
THANKS!
Amateur photography- Canon SD1000 or Canon A570 IS?
Well the picture you put a link to is really a macro shot and doesn%26#039;t have as much to do with the camera you choose as it does with the lens that is on the camera. I had a Canon Powershot A620, and it worked fine for taking self portraits or pics of friends to post on MySpace or whatever website you use. However, it is not meant as a professional camera- like if you wanted to use your sp%26#039;s in a portfolio as a model. It doesn%26#039;t really produce high quality photo%26#039;s. But I did enjoy the camera while I had it.

I'm looking for a vibrant painting (possibly with an encouraging message)?
I really love this artist Kym Brundritt (www.kymb.ca), who I recently saw at an art show. I love her style, motivaitonal messages, and the vibrant yet calming colours of her paintings. If anyone knows of anything similar to this, I would really appreciate any ideas!
Thanks!
I%26#039;m looking for a vibrant painting (possibly with an encouraging message)?
Try %26quot;Open Window, Collioure%26quot; by Henri Matisse, from the Fauvist school of Expressionism. I like it for the colors, but also for his expression of the uplifting, beautiful scene from his studio overlooking the Mediterranean.
Thanks!

They have acrylic sealers that you can get at the craft store. I painted my leather jacket many, many years ago and sealed it and it still looks nice, just a touch faded.

Are there any other pictures/paintings of Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour?
I%26#039;ve seen the paintings of Anne with the rose, the sketch by holbein, the miniature, the one with Elizabethan clothing and the other one said to resemble her the most.
I%26#039;ve also seen those of Jane Seymour (the inspiration for the Whitehall mural)
In the intro for the Tudors, there is also a frame which shows Henry VIII with a girl with blonde hair, what painting is that and where can I view it?
AND does anyone know where I can see other paintings/sketches/drawings of them made by other artists after their death? Or even those seen on book covers and such?
Are there any other pictures/paintings of Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour?
It%26#039;s quite probable that no actual painting of Anne still exists. The Holbein sketch is probably of another woman and the others are in question. Apparently Henry didn%26#039;t want to be remined of her after her death and destroyed anything resembling her that he could find, which is a shame for those of us who are interested in her. From what I%26#039;ve read, Anne was much more attractive than what we%26#039;ve been lead to believe all these years--no goiter on her neck, no sixth finger. She was also brilliant, talented in a variety of fields, and far kinder. But no match for a psychotic husband who wanted her gone.

Which colors should i mix to get black?
red and green.
Which colors should i mix to get black?
Black is not a combination of color but is the absence of color.
Which colors should i mix to get black?
Try mixing the Three Primaries Equally. Other than that if you have ultramarine blue and burnt sienna mix them. Good Luck
Reply:You don%26#039;t. You can get darker colors by mixing different colors together, but there%26#039;s no way of mixing colors to get black. Black %26amp; white are not colors. Mixing all three primary colors (Blue, Yellow, Red) will only give you brown. Ultramarine %26amp; Phtalo blues can be used to get a dark shadowy affect though, but not black.
Reply:Ultramarine blue and burnt siena make a great, rich, vibrant black.
You can also mix any complimentary colors (ie, red/ green, blue/ orange, purple/ yellow) to eventually get black.
Reply:I always use purple green and brown to get black
Reply:mixing complementary colors can get you some very dark browns, since technically there is no such thing as the color black in nature just really dark browns and blues and so on, so you don%26#039;t really need true black in a nature painting in most cases (in nature black is the absence of light) But with painting, we mix together a bunch of colors and call it black.
Try ultramarine with an earth color, or for something a bit darker try:
Prussian blue, alizarin crimson, and an earth color (my favorite is burnt sienna, but burnt umber, raw sienna, and raw umber work as well).
Hope that helps,
Lauren

Hope that helps,
Lauren
What is the difference between sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and 28-70mm f2.8 in terms of picture quality?
goto dpreview.com, compare them and find out, if one is %26quot;EX%26quot; then its pro grade and the image quality will be much better.
are they both constant F2.8s?

What is the difference between sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and 28-70mm f2.8 in terms of picture quality?
Since I shoot a lot of landscape and architectural, the 24mm aspect of the 24-70 mm focal range would appeal to me ... how ever I stopped buying any third party lenses may years ago. Lenses last for decades, so buying the lenses made by the company that makes your camera makes a lot of economic sense

How do you save a picture with Picasa but still have the old photo?
When I do %26#039;save as%26#039; and save the photo, the original photo changes with it. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
How do you save a picture with Picasa but still have the old photo?
When you do the %26quot;save as%26quot; choice, don%26#039;t save the photo with the same filename as the original. For instance, if the original file is called ABC.JPG, save the modified photo as ABCModified.jpg . That way you%26#039;ll have the original, and also the modified version.

If you %26quot;save as%26quot; and put it in your picture folder the one in Picasa will stay there.Good Luck

Meaning of full-length photo?
Hi, I%26#039;m wanting to send in my photos for modelling, they asked for one portrait photo and one full-length photo. By full-length, can it be of me sitting? You can still see the whole body but I%26#039;m sitting. Or does it have to be of one standing? Thanks.
Meaning of full-length photo?
I would think ,they would want you standing. That way they can see how you carry yourself.Your posture, your body language and the attitude you give off.

Knock on a lot of doors.
Keep working on it.
Don%26#039;t give up on yourself.
I%26#039;ve had my comic strip published in a few publications and daily Union flyers, but I haven%26#039;t gone to the extreme of sending it to any syndicates or major publishers.
I%26#039;m not sure how you%26#039;d be able to get into comic book arenas, other than go online to the specific publishers%26#039; websites and peruse their pages for information...but for places like United Syndicate and other major companies, they only select about three out of every 500+ new strips they see every YEAR.
Your best bet would be to join a comic book club or a cartoonists network and start %26quot;mingling%26quot; with veteran artists. They%26#039;re your best connection to finding out %26quot;what it takes%26quot;.

What kind of medium or art materials does the mangakas (comic maker) use??
i%26#039;m just wondering what kind of medium the mangakas use for their mangas....
like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Yuu_W...
PLEASE HELP ME...tnx!
What kind of medium or art materials does the mangakas (comic maker) use??
I see a lot of artists use copic markers, but they%26#039;re a bit pricey.
http://www.copicmarker.com/
Dunno what specific brands the pros use for inking, but right now I use Zig Millennium pens (01 and 005) and I think they%26#039;re fine (I haven%26#039;t tried out other brands yet...)
http://www.discountart.com/store/zig-mar...
Not so sure with paper types either, though I think you%26#039;re better off with somewhat thick paper if you plan to use markers. They bleed....
Or you could resort to graphics programs like Photoshop and Illustrator.
